Quad Rings

Quad rings are specially developed sealing solutions that are four lipped, with twice the number of sealing surfaces as an O ring. The four lobed design not only provides lower friction than an O ring, but also, due to its square cross section, it resists spiral twist. These rings are available in a wide range of elastomer materials for both standard and also other special applications. This type of rings are vulcanized as a continuous ring. A quad ring completely interchangeable with O rings and are available in all standard O Ring sizes from 1/32 inches to 26 inches, as well as custom seals for unique applications. There are many features of quad rings, which include high sealing effect, avoiding spiral twist, longer seal life, absence of parting line on sealing surface and many more.

The introduction of high eneregy systems, increased operating pressures and a host of special purpose fluids has eliminated the casual selection of sealing devices for most applications. Less friction is achieved as a result of two sealing surfaces giving a positive seal. Due to an improved pressure profile over quad ring cross section, a high sealing effect is achieved. To minimize breakaway friction, an O Ring groove must be wide enough to allow rolling or twisting of the seal. In the long stroke of a reciprocating seal application, this twisting action can strain and eventually tear the rubber, causing a failure mode known as spiral twist. To prevent spiral twist, the quad ring's four lobed configuration is designed to withstand the distortion and extrusion often caused by high or pulsating pressure. To accommodate these forces, a quad ring uses a narrower groove than a comparable O Ring or a seal.

Because less squeeze means less friction with the four lobed design, seals last longer. This means equipment in which the quad ring is installed will operate longer and require less maintenance. Unlike O Rings, where partitioning lines are on the sealing surface, quad ring’s parting lines lie between the lobes, away from the sealing surface. This design eliminates the problems of leakage resulting from a parting line’s irregular surface. The recessed mold parting line provides no flash or parting line on the surface of the seal and ensures no leakage. A single quad ring can play an important role in two directions' seal and is applicable for different seal media such as oil, water, gas, chemical medium and other mixed media. The uniqueness of these rings from the house of Darcoid Nor-Cal Seals makes the product reliable and sustainable.
What's more, a lubricant reservoir formed between the sealing lips improves performance at start up. Their four lobe configuration also helps to eliminate the seal from twisting in the groove causing premature failure. A quad ring can be used in a wide variety of static and dynamic sealing applications. With the unique four lobe configuration, quad rings have two sealing areas per side as opposed to one sealing area on an O ring.
